I first started to make websites when I was 13, bored one summer holiday I found an HTML tutorial on www.DaveSite.com. From there I moved onto PHP and MySQL and used a little CSS for formatting. During the past year I have really developed my use of CSS and other standards and now create layouts using CSS for the majority or the layouts.

Although I have no formal training in web design, by making mistakes, picking other people's websites to bits, and asking for opinions all the way I have gained the kind of experience you cannot get from a classroom.

Here are some of my favourite projects:

Spark Stuff
www.spark-stuff.net July 2007 - January 2010
With Sierra closing ARC in August 2007, my ARC-Stuff site became redundant. Moving to an ARC clone, Spark, I re-created ARC-Stuff as Spark-Stuff.net, with the same function and purpose.

Most of the site was re-written, building on the experience I have gained since starting ARC-Stuff. It was nice to be able to re-visit work I have already done and approach it in a different way.

The site shares a login with the official site, and the game, at www.spark-hq.net. For this it simulates logging into the website and parses the returned HTML. When the game development is less frantic, I will be working with the developer to create a nicer way of achieving this.

Red Mask
www.redmask.co.uk September 2006 - September 2008
Creating this website for a dog breeder included writing new scripts as well as merging together two pre-written scripts.

I made the layout and the engine and they wrote all the content. They can add, remove or edit virtually any of the text on the site from an easy-to-use web interface.

Compuchange.net
www.compuchange.co.uk July 2007 - August 2008
Whilst working in my local computer store I setup thier new website.

It was an osCommerce base, but the real fun came when I wrote a script to import products directly from our supplies data feeds (as CSV, XML or Excel Files) automaticaly added a markup depending on the product type and added them to our store.

Patabugens Products
shop.patabugen.co.uk November 2007 - August 2008
Rather than being a skint student I setup OS Commerce to and used a drop shipping service to make some extra pocket money. Eventually I got a real job and closed the store.

It was very useful to have the excuse to play around with setting up, configuring and customising the enormous back-end of OS Commerce.

OS Commerce Admin, HTML, PHP
ARC-Stuff
www.ARC-Stuff.net June 2002 - October 2007
This is a community website I created for a game called ARC.

Its feature include a searchable maps database, file downloads, screenshots, a faces page and an Atlas showing players locations in the world.

It has been an ongoing project since 2002 and is aimed at being driven by the ARC community.

HTML, PHP, MySQL, Ajax
ARC-Realm
www.arc-realm.net (now offline) September 2006 - January 2007
Although I didn't make the layout for this site I did all the PHP behind it.

The main feature being the Admin list which is fully managed from a GUI and automatically downloaded to the dedicated server by a small VB app.

PHP, MySQL, Visual Basic
The Attic
www.patabugen.co.uk/theattic October 2003 - June 2005
Originally created for A-Level ICT coursework I used this layout for a youth group I attended.

My favorite feature and idea here was to use CSS instead of Javascript to create rollovers.

For 2dayuk I created a shopping cart whereby visitors could select photos they want, and at what size, and pay for them using World Pay.

The end result fitting seemlessly into their existing website.

PHP, MySQL

Originally written as a learning aid to help learn Hebrew words, letters and numbers as part of the (now defunked) WLS Religion School website I revived it when I started Ulpan in October 2008.

It has a database of Hebrew words, with English equivalents, each time the page loads it picks one word and gives you four options for it's meaning. It keeps a running total of how many correct and incorrect answers you chose.

It is capable of supporting not only Hebrew to English, but from any language to any other language. Currently it only has Hebrew and English words and is open to anybody to expand the words in any language.

Greenbury
www.greenbury.co.uk August 2006 - present
My family website, for visitors it has photos, RSVP and contact forms.

For family members it has a file manager, email and calender.

HTML, CSS, PHP, MySQL
Baltic Stone
www.balticstone.co.uk October 2006 - present
The primary aim behind Baltic Stone replacing their old website was so that they can easily update it so the products they display are the products they sell. They also have the ability to add, change or edit the pages themselves.

Using a flexible script loaded with options they have complete control over the products which are shown, the order they are shown and even which ones appear in the slideshow, all from an easy to use web-based back end.

Graphic Design, Photo Editing and Touchup, HTML, CSS, PHP, MySQL, Ajax
In 2004 I was asked to make a website for the religion school I work at. After a short while the project was dropped until the synagogue sorted out their new website.

There wern't any real plans for what to have on the website, so I was free to come up with ideas which I thought was great. To start with I was building features so that teachers could request resources, parents see the homework was set, some game (some educational some just for fun!), and to try to create an interactive community online.

Hopefully soon I will be able to finish it.
